instrument is covered with a blanket of superinsulation to protect it
from the extreme variations of temperature on the Moon (-400° to
+200°F). The principle of operation is shown in figure 29. The
level, used on the Moon in exactly the same way as on the Earth,
indicates whether the instrument is level. The Sun compass indicates
direction.
