NP-119 Science in Orbit: The Shuttle
& Spacelab Experience, 1981-1986
The top panel of these two
spectrograms shows the angle of diffracted partivles as they fill the
wake left by the Shuttle. The bottom panel shows the distribution of
ion energy over time. By studying intensity chnages at different
angles, investigators are trying to determine the physical processes
occurring as the particles refill the wake. Similar processes may
occur in the wakes of celestial bodies moving through space.
