Figure 2-4. After the S-IVB stage had placed the Apollo
spacecraft on its proper trajectory to the moon, the Apollo command
and service module-lunar module adapter panels blossomed outward. The
CSM separated from the launch vehicle stage, pulled away, turned
around, docked with the lunar module, and then pulled the LM away
from the S-IVB. In this- docked configuration, the spacecraft made
its way to the moon.
