SP-402 A New Sun: The Solar Results From Skylab

AN ARTIST'S CONCEPT OF THE ATM SOLAR OBSERVATORY reveals the inside of the experiments package. Eight solar instruments were contained in the cylindrical enclosure to provide protection against severe temperature excursions and any residual contamination as the spacecraft orbited Earth. The entire canister was supported on gimbals to allow precision pointing and stability while gathering data on various solar features.
