THE AUTHOR
R. Cargill Hall is the Historian for the Jet Propulsion Laboratory. He came there in 1967 from Lockheed Missiles & Space Company, where he was an operations research analyst and a historian. He has published Project Ranger: A Chronology and served as Coordinator-Editor of the "Annual Chronology of Astronautical Events" of the International Academy of Astronautics. He also edited the two-volume Essays on the History of Rocketry and Astronautics: Proceedings of the Third Through the Sixth History Symposia of the International Academy of Astronautics.
Mr. Hall received his B.A. degree in political science from Whitman College in 1959 and his M.A. in political science and international relations from San Jose College in 1966. He was awarded the Goddard Historical Essay Trophy by the National Rocket Club in 1962 and 1963 and was named one of the Outstanding Young Men of America in 1968. Articles of his have appeared in the American Journal of International Law, Journal of Air Law and Commerce, The Airpower Historian, and Technology and Culture.
