SP-4212
- On
Mars: Exploration of the Red Planet. 1958-1978
- A proposed 10-year programming
chart was shown to NASA Administrator Glennan at the 8 July 1960
planetary program briefing. The proposals for launch vehicle upper
stages above the timeline would use nonconventional-ion and
electric-propulsion. (SNAP stands for "system for nuclear
auxiliary power"; SNAP VIII would produce 60 kilowatts of
electrical power.) Proposals for upper stages shown below the
timeline would use conventional-chemical-propulsion.
