I have been assisted in this review by several other members of
the X-15 team. The extensive help of Mr. Jack Fischel of the NASA
Flight Research Center and Mr. Jim A. Penland of the NASA Langley
Research Center is especially noted. I would also like to remind
readers that although NASA exercised technical responsibility for most
of the flight research discussed here, the United States Air Force
played a major role in the program. They provided much of the business
management, the bulk of the funding, and they were also deeply involved
in all of the flight operations.
