Rhea is heavily cratered, at least on the Saturn-facing hemisphere, where the highest resolution pictures were taken. Light-colored, "wispy" markings characterize the images on the other side of Rhea. The exact nature of these wispy markings is not known, although they may be frost from water vapor escaping from cracksin the surface. These markings are similar to those found on Dione. The location of the markings with respect to the Saturn-facing hemisphere is probably coincidental.
